Get Ready for Southampton!

The eLanguages team in Modern Languages and Linguistics have launched the 2018 edition of the free online course Get Ready for Southampton. This course aims to show what life and study is like for international students at the University of Southampton, and provides an opportunity for students to network prior to arrival. Last year over 3200 students used the course, and this year over 50 students had signed up within an hour of its launch. Continue reading →

Yesterday the eLanguages team in Modern Languages launched the 2015 edition of the free online course Get Ready for Southampton. This course aims to show what life and study is like for international students at the University of Southampton, and provides an opportunity for students to network prior to arrival. The Institute for Language and Culture (ILC) launch event, entitled ‘New Directions for Research in Language and Culture’, will be held on Wednesday 6th November 2013 at the University of Southampton’s Avenue Campus. Highlights include: Inaugural lecture of Professor Marion Demossier Keynote presentations by external speakers Panel discussion about the future of language and culture research Poster session about current research at the ILC, led by postgraduate researchers. English as a Lingua Franca book launch

Co-authored by Alessia Cogo (University of Southampton), and Martin Dewey (King’s College London), and published by Continuum, the new book “Analysing English as Lingua Franca: a corpus investigation” was successfully launched at Somerset House, London, on 28th November 2012. The book was introduced by Jenny Jenkins from the University of Southampton, and several Southampton students and staff attended the launch hosted by King’s College London. Continue reading →
