Modern Languages to host Year 8 Able Linguist Days

Modern Languages will be welcoming over 250 Year 8 students to the Avenue Campus this week for two Able Linguist Days, taking place on Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th June 2015. Students will participate in a mini-project in French, German or Spanish, and will have the opportunity to try a new language such as Portuguese or Chinese, plus hear a talk about languages about how they can be useful in the world of work. Modern Languages Employability Gala

Students of Modern Languages are invited to the Modern Languages Employability Gala, taking place this Thursday 30 April 2015 in Lecture Theatre B and the café on Avenue Campus. An alumni panel will begin at 6pm, when Modern Languages alumni who are now working for NGOs, multinational companies, the Civil Service, charities and more will present on their career experiences thus far, and will explain how the skills they learnt at Southampton have helped them. Today is the last chance to book your place at the Language Testing Forum 2014, to be hosted by Modern Languages at the University of Southampton from 21-23 November. This year’s conference will focus on the theme of ‘Language Testing: Engaging multi-disciplinary perspectives’, and offers the opportunity for language testers and language educators to engage with new developments in the field. Future students for Modern Languages

Over 60 sixth formers visited the University of Southampton on 6th November 2012 for the Year 12 Languages Study Day. The event, designed for Year 12 students considering studying languages at university, offered sessions on cultural topics, grammar and speaking in French, German or Spanish, careers in languages, and the chance to try a taster class in a new language. The event was a great success and was positively evaluated by those who attended. Continue reading →
