Language Clubs starting October

Lifelong Learning at the University of Southampton is launching a new Language Club scheme, designed for language enthusiasts (French, Chinese, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese and English Language) who are keen to improve their existing language skills. More school pupils speaking English as a second language

The Telegraph has reported that the number of schoolchildren speaking English as a second language reached a record high of more than one million this year. Figures show that almost one in five pupils in primary education in the UK speak another language in the home, whilst the proportion of children starting school with English as a second language has doubled since the late 1990s.
