Best in the UK for Music research

Just after term ended, the results of the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014 were announced, and we are delighted that Southampton has been ranked as the top Music department in the UK for its research in musicology and ethnomusicology, composition and performance.  90% of our work was rated as world-leading or internationally excellent, with 68% achieving the very highest world-leading standard. It’s easy… when you know how

It feels like I’ve spent the best part of four days learning Linux. Lets be specific (because I’ve discovered, you have to be specific), I’ve been learning the RedHat distro of Linux which does somethings differently to, for example, Ubunto. Oh, and I’ve been learning the Windows Command prompt syntax as well, all to get a Minecraft Portus up on to the University’s Minecraft server. Continue reading →

Chawton House Manikka, Harry and Laurence at in the Great Hall Pianist Harry Matthews (year 2) tells us about the most recent Music department concert at Chawton House Library: Last Tuesday, I went with Professor David Owen Norris, Laurence McNaughton and Manikka Marchant to provide a night of Georgian piano music at Chawton House Library. New online platform for finding and comparing language courses launched

LanguageLearningPortal.com, a new online platform that aims to help prospective language learners globally to search for, compare and select language courses that correspond to their needs, has recently been launched through a partnership between the Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies (LLAS) at the University of Southampton, StudyPortals and Linguaid, as part of the Hello!
