Centre for Global Englishes seminar: “Intercultural Perspectives on Internationalising Universities”

25th EuroCALL conference to be held at Southampton in 2017!

The 25th EuroCALL conference will be hosted by Modern Languages at the University of Southampton, 23-26 August 2017. EuroCALL is the European Association for Computer Assisted Language Learning and it has been supporting and developing research and good practice in the use of technology for language teaching and learning for over 25 years. Modern Languages launches Southampton German Festival

The Department of Modern Languages at Southampton has teamed up with the Winchester Poetry Festival and the Phoenix Film Theatre for its forthcoming ‘Southampton German Festival’, which aims to introduce different facets of contemporary ‘German’ culture through an exciting range of cultural activities, catering for different tastes and including family friendly activities. Southampton Language Exchange event this week!

Modern Languages and Erasmus students may be interested in joining the first social event organised by the Southampton Language Exchange this Tuesday 27th September from 7pm-10pm in the American Bar (SUSU Building on Highfield Campus). Every Tuesday over 100 people from all over the world get together at these social events to practise their languages and make new friends. Students are invited to chat and socialise in a different language and help others practise the languages they speak. Continue reading →

Professor Roumyana Slabakova to give Inaugural Lecture

Professor Roumyana Slabakova, Chair of Applied Linguistics and Director of the Centre for Linguistics, Language Education and Acquisition Research (CLLEAR) in Modern Languages at the University of Southampton will be giving her Inaugural Lecture on Thursday 27th October 2016 at 18:00 at the University’s Avenue Campus. The talk, entitled ‘The Bottleneck Hypothesis of Second Language Acquisition’, will discuss second language acquisition as a cognitive process. Continue reading →
