More future Modern Languages students to visit the University

More potential future Modern Languages students will be visiting the University on Wednesday 19th June 2013 for the Year 12 Languages Study Day, run by Modern Languages at the University of Southampton. The event is for Year 12 students who are thinking about studying languages at university. There are sessions on cultural topics, grammar and speaking in French, German or Spanish, plus the chance to do a taster class in a new language and attend a talk on languages and careers. “Teaching in higher education through the medium of English” course starts today

A five-day course in “Teaching in higher education through the medium of English” starts today, Monday 10th June 2013, at the University of Southampton. The academics participating in the programme are based at European universities. Of the nine attendees, four are from Sweden, two from Norway, two from Lithuania and one from France. Future Modern Languages students to visit the University

More potential future Modern Languages students will be visiting the University on Tuesday 11th June 2013 for the Year 8 Able Linguists Day, run by Modern Languages at the University of Southampton. The event provides year 8 pupils with the chance to develop their language skills further. Activities include an intensive mini-project in either French, German or Spanish, a taster session in a new language, plus a talk about languages and how they can be useful in the world of work. Visit to Humanities/Modern Languages by delegation from Zhejiang University, China

On Thursday 30 May, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Vice Chancellor and senior representatives of Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. Zhejiang is one of the foremost research led universities in China; the Faculty of Arts and Humanities has research and teaching in linguistics, English language and literature, French, German and Japanese, among other subjects. Final chance to apply – Introductory Teaching English for Academic Purposes (TEAP) course

There are a few remaining places on the Introductory Teaching English for Academic Purposes (TEAP) course from 3rd – 21st June 2013 at the University of Southampton. The course is designed for qualified teachers (e.g. Diploma TEFLA/TESOL) who wish to move into TEAP (Teaching English for Academic Purposes) and teach on a Pre-sessional programme. Routes into Languages receives further funding

The national Routes into Languages programme administered through the LLAS Centre based at the University of Southampton has received a further £3.1 million from HEFCE for activities promoting language study in higher education.
