Funding for new postgraduate studentships in Modern Languages announced

The University of Southampton’s Faculty of Humanities has recently announced a range of studentships in Modern Languages and in other Arts and Humanities subjects, to be funded through the South West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership. It is expected that around 40 studentships will be granted in 2014-15 in the areas of Archaeology, Creative Writing, Drama, Film and TV, English, History, including Jewish History and Culture, Modern Languages, Music and Philosophy. Free online videos for English language teachers’ professional development

Modern Languages lecturer, Dr Julia Hüttner, has recently completed a project funded by the Higher Education Academy to produce a series of lesson recordings, with 16-18 year olds at a sixth form college in Hampshire and also of classes with international students at the University of Southampton. The videos, which include English language lessons and interviews with the classroom teachers, aim to help new English language teachers to gain a unique insight into their chosen profession.
