‘Teaching in higher education through the medium of English’ courses

The University of Southampton will be running a number of courses in “Teaching in higher education through the medium of English” over the coming year. Dates for the next two courses are 20th–24th January 2014 and 31st March–4th April 2014. These five-day courses are designed for academics in universities across the world whose first language is not English and who are delivering degree programmes and presenting research through the medium of English. Modern Languages at the University of Southampton has recently launched the first edition of its new quarterly newsletter, International English. Produced by the Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies (LLAS), the newsletter is designed for academics across the world who are using English professionally, whether teaching their discipline in English, or using English to promote their research at conferences. Funding for new postgraduate studentships in Modern Languages announced

The University of Southampton’s Faculty of Humanities has recently announced a range of studentships in Modern Languages and in other Arts and Humanities subjects, to be funded through the South West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership. It is expected that around 40 studentships will be granted in 2014-15 in the areas of Archaeology, Creative Writing, Drama, Film and TV, English, History, including Jewish History and Culture, Modern Languages, Music and Philosophy.
