Critical skills and strategies for language learning additional workshop

The Language and Academic Advisory Team in Modern Languages at Southampton will be running a repeat session of the workshop, ‘Critical Skills and Strategies for ‘Good’ Language Learning’, following a very positive response from this week’s attendees. ICT and Languages Conference a success!

Last weekend’s ICT and Languages Conference 2015, hosted by the Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies (LLAS) team at the University of Southampton on 28th February and 1st March was a great success! The conference, aimed at teachers of languages in schools, focused on technology and pedagogy of language teaching in primary and secondary schools, and attracted 60 delegates from around the country. This is the fifth annual conference on this topic to be held at Southampton. Continue reading →

Next ILC seminar: ‘Impacts of Impact post REF2014’

The next Institute for Language and Culture (ILC) seminar will take place on Wednesday 4 March 2015 from 4:00-6:00pm in Room 1177, Building 65, Avenue Campus. The seminar is entitled ‘Impacts of Impact post REF2014’ and will be delivered by Professor Florence Myles from the University of Essex. The research of 154 UK universities was assessed. The lecture, entitled ‘A Latin American Country: The United States’, will be delivered by Felipe Fernández-Armesto, writer and British historian, and will be chaired by Professor Clare Mar-Molinero, Associate Dean (Internationalisation) and Professor of Spanish at Southampton. Modern Languages students with an interest in business and entrepreneurship may wish to attend the 2015 Alumni Lecture, to be given by Southampton Modern Languages alumnus Rosemary Squire OBE (BA Spanish, 1979), joint CEO of the Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG), the largest live theatre business in the world. Critical skills and strategies for language learning workshop

Language learners at the University of Southampton, in particular Modern Languages students, are invited to participate in a 45-minute workshop on the development of skills and strategies for independent language learning.
