Modern Languages to host BALEAP PIM on English Medium Instruction

The Department of Modern Languages at the University of Southampton will be hosting this year’s BALEAP Professional Issues Meeting on Saturday 11th June 2016 at Avenue Campus. The event is entitled: EMI in Higher Education: the challenges and the opportunities. This year’s event promises to be a whirlwind tour of Japan, the Sudan, Hungary, France, Spain, Luxembourg, Dubai, Malaysia, Bulgaria and Turkey, not to mention Ireland and the UK. Continue reading →

Modern Languages PhD student wins CALICO Outstanding Graduate Student Award

Modern Languages PhD student and lecturer at Umm AlQura University in Saudi Arabia, Sahar Alzahrani, received the CALICO Outstanding Graduate Student Award at this year’s Computer Assisted Language Instruction Consortium (CALICO) Conference, which took place from 10-14 May 2016 at Michigan State University in the US. This award is presented annually at the conference in recognition of academic and research achievements in the area of CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning). Continue reading →

University hosts successful China Day as part of Culture Festival week

China Day, hosted jointly by the Faculty of Humanities, the Confucius Institute and the Chinese Students and Scholars Association, with support from SUSU, took place on 27th April 2016 in the SUSU Concourse, and was a great success! Activities included a traditional music performance, paper cutting, calligraphy, Kung-fu and a photo exhibition. Some of the highlights of the event can be seen on this short video. Next MeXsu seminar: “Onwards and downwards: labour market experiences of onward Latin American migrants in London”

The next Centre for Mexico-Southampton Collaboration (MeXsu) seminar will take place from 5:00-6:30pm on Wednesday 11th May 2016, in Lecture Theatre C, Building 65, Avenue Campus. The seminar is entitled “Onwards and downwards: labour market experiences of onward Latin American migrants in London” and will be presented by Cathy McIlwaine from the School of Geography, Queen Mary University of London.
