‘Understanding Language: Learning and Teaching’ MOOC to be relaunched in October

Modern Languages at Southampton will be relaunching the University of Southampton MOOC, ‘Understanding Language: Learning and Teaching’ on Monday 17 October. Intercultural Connections Southampton to host free events in September

Intercultural Connections Southampton will be hosting two free events for staff (including PGR students) in September: Seminar on working interculturally A seminar on working interculturally will take place on Monday 19th September from 10:00-13:00 in Building 85, Room 2207. Get Ready for Southampton continues to grow!

Now over 1700 students from over 110 countries have used Get Ready for Southampton so far this year. The course is aimed at international students who are considering coming to study a degree at the University of Southampton or who have already applied. The course will be open until early October so there’s still time to join and meet your potential classmates! Ab initio language courses for new Modern Languages students

New Modern Languages students may be interested in our accelerated ab initio language courses in French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish which, assuming you start in year 1 and continue throughout your degree, may allow you to reach graduate level by the end of your degree course in your new language. On some of our BA degree programmes, doing this will give you the opportunity to spend your year abroad in the country where this new language is spoken. Continue reading →

20th Anniversary discount on Humanities postgraduate taught courses for 2016/17

To celebrate 20 years of Humanities at Avenue Campus, the University of Southampton is offering a 20th Anniversary discount on all postgraduate taught courses for entry in 2016/17. A 10% discount (15% for alumni of the University) will be available to all students applying for entry to a postgraduate taught course in Humanities subjects in 2016/17. British Council urges Britons to try Portuguese for the Olympics

The British Council has published an article urging Britons to “give Portuguese a go” for the Olympics Games. According to the article, British Council research has shown that Portuguese is “the sixth most important language for the UK’s future”. The British Council has also designed bilingual visitor handbooks to help visitors and athletes at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. To read the article in full, visit the British Council website.
