The Beginning of Something Greater

I used to be a stranger online. I know many lifestyle & beauty bloggers, watched vlogs and read a ton of interesting and debatable articles online, but rarely have I made myself known by commenting or participating in discussions. This module gave me the confidence to let my little voice be heard in the virtual world. This is a summary of my before and after digital profile. Continue reading →

Topic 5 Reflection

I thoroughly enjoyed reading my classmates’ posts, which gave me a clearer insight to the pros and cons of contents published freely online especially from the content producer’s point of view. Content producers can share their work through various forms online. (Done by me on Pictochart) I liked how XinHui’s post discussed about contents posted on social media. Continue reading →

Topic 5: Dilemma of a Content Producer

What happens when you cannot find a particular article, book or journal online? A survey done by Student PIRGs reported that 65% of 2000 students opted against buying a book because it was too costly. Open Access (OA) is the free, immediate, online availability of research articles coupled with the rights to use these articles fully in the digital environment. As students, we all faced similar situations where we were not granted access to a particular journal. Continue reading →

Topic 4 Reflection

Brenden and Zoey’s comment led me to think about the effectiveness of advertising in regards to astroturfing and the transparency of social media which I mentioned in my previous post. Despite the fact that influencers are slowly losing their credibility due to sponsored advertisements, companies still choose to leverage on social media marketing because it increases brand awareness and increases their scope of audiences. Topic 3 Reflection

Before I did this topic, it has never occurred to me that blogging can actually be a way of showing your professionalism. Although I know of famous bloggers who make a living out of blogging, I never thought that I could use my own blog to my advantage in creating a professional online profile. Reading Elvina’s post and further research gave me a deeper insight to how I can do that. Continue reading →

Topic 2 Reflection

After reading and commenting on my classmates’ blogs, I found out that there are two approaches to having multiple identities. One which you create multiple accounts for different purposes and another where you totally want the autonomy to do whatever you want without being judged or found out by your friends and family. I absolutely love and agree with what Wanni wrote about the effects of anonymity and how it may eventually lead to bad outcomes if not properly managed. Continue reading →

Who are you in the virtual world?

There are so many social media platforms that makes creating different online personas possible. Is having more than one online identity for the better or worse? According to internet society, Online identity is the reflection of your characteristics and interactions you represent online. It is hard to define our online identity because you interact and display different characteristics at different platforms. Topic 1 Reflection

After commenting and reading about my friends’ blog post, I got a better understanding of the theories and what each term actually means. Initially I was confused and thought that digital ‘visitors’ were immigrants and digital ‘residents’ were natives. Then I clarified that they were from two different frameworks which cannot be compared that way. I also learnt the difference between the two and how to classify individuals. Continue reading →
