It gets better from here.

Prior to this module, i thought my knowledge on online security and managing an online profile was sufficient and there was nothing more to it. I was wrong. In my Topic 1’s self test, I confidently rated myself high 4s to most of the categories because I was native and innocent to the dangers of protecting my online identity and the usefulness of building online interest groups and making myself known in the cyber world. We need to be heard!

After reading my classmate’s blogs, I still personally feel that the pros outweigh the cons when it comes to releasing free online content. I am all for the free content because it really makes researching and answering my doubts a whole lot easier (and faster). People are not yet entirely open to the concept of paying for something that is intangible. Making contents online free is a step that people have to take in order to increase the chances of being heard. Continue reading →

This is all bittersweet

Let me start of this post with a list of the things I hate: My hard work not paying off My hard work not getting the credits it deserve Someone taking my hard work and deeming it as theirs People talking about my work but not knowing it is mine Sorry for welcoming you with negativity and bitterness but take a moment to imagine all those happening to you. Wouldn’t you feel frustrated? Offended? EXASPERATED? Yes, me too. (Photo source: https://www.tumblr. Continue reading →

Some things are better left unsaid

The different ethical issues faced are countless and I’m glad I came across some posts that talked about issues that I overlooked. (Photo source: https://www.tumblr.com/tagged/beauitful-gif) For example, Yi Shin had a unique point of talking about ethical issues practiced by some companies. It is true that one’s social media platform does not entirely determine one’s capabilities in his specialised field. Continue reading →

Reflective Summary: Topic 3

Such an eye opener it has been after reading several blog posts and understanding what an authentic professional profile means to different ones of us. The one common thing that almost everyone agreed on was how technology is increasingly becoming more significant in our lives. If that’s the case, lets use this to our advantage and come up with out-of-the-box ideas to set us apart. (Picture source: http://clearchoicestaffing. Continue reading →

If I were an employer, would i hire myself?

Qn. Discuss the ways in which an authentic online professional profile can be developed. If I were an employer, would I hire myself? While reading articles and watching videos on how I can boost my online identity, I had this question at the back of my head; what do I want my employer to see when he Googles me? If I were an employer, I would look for someone with a decent profile picture. Continue reading →

Reflective Summary: Topic 2

After reading different posts by my classmates, I am enlightened by so many different perspectives. At the beginning, I saw having multiple online identities as being active in more than one social media platform. In my opinion, it does not mean creating two separate Facebook accounts that makes two different online identities; it meant having more than one social media platform account. Our behaviours differ from different social-networking sites and websites, e.g. Continue reading →

Topic 2: Managing Your Online Identity

Qn. Discuss the arguments for and against having more than one online identity. I am for having more than one online identity. I have to agree with this because i myself, am a frequent user to more than one online platform and spend a significant amount of time to flourish my online persona. In the recent times, there are countless forms of social media platforms that have been created, little spaces online, allows people to build an “online version” of themselves. Continue reading →

Reflective Summary: Topic 1

I had such a great time reading different blog posts written by my classmates. Upon reading them, i have gain new insights to the topic of “digital residents” and “digital visitors”. I have previously overlooked certain points as how some “digital immigrants” can be more tech savvy than the “digital natives”. Some people are just more keen on picking up skills and are better at maneuvering their way around the web. Continue reading →
