The Energy and Climate Change Division (ECCD) and the Sustainable Energy Research Group (SERG) within the School of Engineering at the University of Southampton, UK, are hosting the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) Energy in Buildings and Communities (EBC) Programme task group on Occupant-Centric Building Design and Operation (known as ‘Annex 79’). The Symposium is chaired jointly by Stephanie Gauthier and AbuBakr Bahaj of ECCD.

The first two days (20-21 April) comprise the 5th International Symposium on User Behaviour. In view of the lockdown, the meeting are being held virtually. The two-day symposium has a full programme of six sessions each with eight presentations and on the first day, there were over 190 attendees from 24 countries using a web conferencing platform. The presentations cover cutting-edge research from around the world in the field of user comfort and user behaviour in buildings, with climates ranging from Northern Canada to the Indian Ocean and topics as diverse as building simulation, teleworking, nudges and behaviour change. The second two days (22-23 April) hosts the 4th Expert Meeting of IEA EBC Annex 79. For more information and a full programme, please see iea-annex.org.
