Southampton composers at the Ludomusicology 2017 Conference

Postgraduate Ā Music student Ben Jameson tells about a recent conference attended by Southampton composers. The Ludomusicology Research Group is an organisation comprised of academics from various universities, dedicated to the study of game music. PhD Student Kate Hawnt tells about recent developments in her research: Last week I had the honour of being invited to attend the book launch of a very special publication that has considerable significance for my research:Ā  A CONSTANT HEART: The War Diaries of Maud Russell 1938-1945, edited by Emily Russell.Ā  The event happened at the National Trust property Mottisfont Abbey, once home to Maud Russell and the rest of the Russell family.Ā  Her youngest son, Raymond, is the focus of my PhD. OUT-TAKE Ensemble presents: the music of Laurence Crane

Postgraduate Music student Ben Jameson tells about aĀ forthcoming concert by new Southampton group OUT-TAKE Ensemble. OUT-TAKE Ensemble is a new contemporary music group based in Southampton, dedicated to commissioning new works by young composers and performing other experimental repertoire by more established names. The Loop Project ā€“ coming soon!

We are all looking forward to 3-5 February, when the Music Department will present a whole weekend of performances and workshops exploring musical loops. Leading jazz musicians Ivo Neame, Jasper HĆøiby and Jon Scott will join the HARTLEY Loop Orchestra to perform a major revision of Benjamin Oliverā€™s Loop Concerto, which was premiered by Neame and Kent County Youth Orchestra in 2013. Rituals to Mould Her With ā€“ and workshop

On Monday 5th December the audience in Turner Sims were treated to an extraordinary new piece which seamlessly blended dance, live instrumental performance, electro-acoustic recordings and theatre. The work, entitled ‘Rituals To Mould Her With’, was a collaborative composition devised by composers Litha & Effy Efthymiou, harpsichordist Jane Chapman, actor EsmĆ© Patey-Ford and dancer Harriet Parker-Beldeau.
