Triumph and Passion with the Bournemouth SO

Will Wilkins (year 3) reports on an exciting and enlightening visit to the BSO: Last Tuesday, January 23rd, it was my great pleasure to visit a Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra rehearsal at the Lighthouse in Poole as part of a delegation from the Southampton University Music Department. The orchestra were in their second day of rehearsals for their ‘Triumph and Passion’ concerts, which were performed in Poole, Portsmouth, and Exeter over the following three days. Continue reading →

The next Centre for Linguistics, Language Education and Acquisition Research (CLLEAR) seminar will take place on Thursday 25th January 2018 at 16:00 in Room 1173, Building 65, Avenue Campus. The talk is entitled “Beyond Borders, Beyond Words: Issues & Challenges in Developing An Open-Access Multimodal Corpus of L2 Academic English from A Sino-British University” and will be delivered by Dr. Yu-Hua Chen from the University of Nottingham, Ningbo Campus. Survey works in 2016 and 2017

Steve Kay and Sophie Hay undertook GPR and Electrical Resistance Tomography Survey on the Claudian mole in the port of Claudius in spring 2016 and 2017, and are due to do so again in spring 2018. The work was funded by the Portuslimen Project undertaken in close collaboration with the British School at Rome. Happy Christmas from the Music Department!

Music finalists Ella Garner and Sabine Russell report on our recent Christmas concert extravaganza (!): On Friday 8th December, the Music Department hosted our annual lunchtime Christmas concert at Turner Sims.
