The results of the REF2014 exercise (Research Excellence Framework – the periodic national assessment of the quality of research being produced in Universities) were released today and Ocean and Earth Science at the University of Southampton have been ranked 4th overall in the country in our Unit of Assessment: “Earth Systems and Environmental Sciences” and joint second in terms of research intensity. We are delighted with this result, and the significant contribution that researchers in Geology & Geophysics made to the overall submission. More details of the breakdown of the result can be found on the OES news page.
