The first UK Open Data Camp, Winchester

As the first ‘unconference’ I’ve attended, I was initially nervous that sanctioned chaos was about to break out. Thankfully, due to a deceptively laid-back but in fact highly efficient organising team, everything ran like clockwork. WSI Distinguished Lecture by Prof. Evelyn Ruppert

Open Data Institute Summit 2014

By Johanna Walker, Web Science PhD Student The conference consisted of 4 sessions; innovation, real life applications, culture and the future and involved 37 speakers, touching on areas from Amazon Web Services’ partnership with NASA to 3D printing to digitizing Burkina Faso to audio visual artworks. The mixture of formats allowed attendees to hear from academics, practitioners, government, publishers, producers, consumers and champions of Open Data. Continue reading →

Barry Wellman Distinguished Lecture

Web Science Summer School 2014

Next week sees the University of Southampton Web Science Institute play host to the inaugural Web Science Summer School.  It aims to provide comprehensive education and networking opportunities to the next generation of Web Scientists.
