Topic 4 – Reflection

This week (months) topic was a lot broader than some of the other topics that we had faced in the previous weeks, allowing us to choose a specific area to target our answers. Since we had a lot more choice in the presentation of our answers, there were a lot of different conclusions that the class made on this subject.

I personally focused my answer around social media being used socially and professionally by teachers in schools, colleges or Universities. Investigating how making social network profiles like Facebook easily a findable and readable as a teacher could cause some problems within their workplace. I feel that the post explains that quite well but upon review I feel I could have included some positives of making a social network profile easy to find, to help give a friendlier, less professional face to you to help keep contact with the students for example.

As I spoke about above, there were a lot of different ways to go about answering this question and from my exploration of other people’s answers it was very true. I chose to read and comment of Namat and Saber’s post. Both of which had very different answers.

Namat went into investigating “Catfishing” or cyber identity theft, while Saber, explained data collection and how it is used to target users with adverts based on the information obtained. Both of these posts explained different issues that I did not have much insight on before viewing these posts. I found it rather good that Saber, described some advantages to using targeted advertisement because before reading it I was always blind to the positives of it since I sore it as an invasion of privacy.
