SAVE project featured in special session at ICEC 2019

Posted on 24th July, 2019

On July 10th, Dr Tom Rushby and Dr Ben Anderson were joined by other project partners to present the Solent Achieving Value from Efficiency (SAVE) project at a special parallel session of the 2019 International Conference for Energy and Cities. A number of key aspects of the SAVE project were described with presentations given on the following topics:

  • Experiences in applying best practice sample recruitment and randomised control trial designs to demand response studies (Dr Ben Anderson, University of Southampton/Otago);
  • Constructing the SAVE dataset, customer demand profiles and spatial modelling of customer loads (Dr Tom Rushby, University of Southampton);
  • Trial findings: what worked to reduce and/or shift peak hours electricity demand (Elizabeth Steele, DNV-GL);
  • Network Investment Tool, applying the SAVE data to inform network planning and investment decisions (Maciej Fila, SSEN).

Dr Rushby also presented results from the SAVE project during the main conference programme, with a talk comparing the household electricity demand reductions gained through two different trial interventions: a distribution network led roll-out of free LED lighting upgrades and a dynamic pricing trial offering participants rebates for consuming less electricity during peak hours.

Dr Anderson gave a presentation to the main conference about the spatial microsimulation modelling techniques used within the SAVE project and a comparative project modelling household electricity demand profiles in New Zealand.
