Southampton composers at the Ludomusicology 2017 Conference

Postgraduate  Music student Ben Jameson tells about a recent conference attended by Southampton composers. The Ludomusicology Research Group is an organisation comprised of academics from various universities, dedicated to the study of game music. A Constant Heart

PhD Student Kate Hawnt tells about recent developments in her research: Last week I had the honour of being invited to attend the book launch of a very special publication that has considerable significance for my research:  A CONSTANT HEART: The War Diaries of Maud Russell 1938-1945, edited by Emily Russell.  The event happened at the National Trust property Mottisfont Abbey, once home to Maud Russell and the rest of the Russell family.  Her youngest son, Raymond, is the focus of my PhD. OUT-TAKE Ensemble presents: the music of Laurence Crane

Postgraduate Music student Ben Jameson tells about a forthcoming concert by new Southampton group OUT-TAKE Ensemble. OUT-TAKE Ensemble is a new contemporary music group based in Southampton, dedicated to commissioning new works by young composers and performing other experimental repertoire by more established names. PerformArt Research Project

‘Joy and Freedom’ in Paris

Associate Professor in Composition Matthew Shlomowitz reports on a recent trip to Paris. Last week I attended a dance performance at the ThĂ©Ăątre National de Chaillot in Paris that featured my work, alongside music by Tom ZĂ© and Ben Harper. The show was titled La FĂȘte (de l'insignifiance) and performed by the Paulo Ribeiro Dance Company, based in Portugal. The three Paris dates followed performances in Lisbon, Viseu, Coimbra and Flor in Portugal, and Besançon in France. Continue reading →
