The first UK Open Data Camp, Winchester

As the first ā€˜unconferenceā€™ Iā€™ve attended, I was initially nervous that sanctioned chaos was about to break out. Thankfully, due to a deceptively laid-back but in fact highly efficient organising team, everything ran like clockwork. WSI Distinguished Lecture by Prof. Evelyn Ruppert

She is also editor-in-chief of a new journal titled ā€œBig Data and Societyā€ and dedicated her lecture to ā€œReflection on Big Data and Society: visualizing an emerging fieldā€. Open Data Institute Summit 2014

By Johanna Walker, Web Science PhD Student The conference consisted of 4 sessions; innovation, real life applications, culture and the future and involved 37 speakers, touching on areas from Amazon Web Servicesā€™ partnership with NASA to 3D printing to digitizing Burkina Faso to audio visual artworks. Barry Wellman Distinguished Lecture
