This weeks topic was really interesting as it had me thinking of my own authenticity online, in terms of a professional profile. Nicole made a very good point when she commented on my post. For me, the key leaning point from this topic was the need to ensure that your professional profile showcases your personality, not just your skills. This was a point emphasised by Charles Hardy (the speaker on Aliyu’s video). Unlike the two previous topics, I’ve found this the most thought-provoking. It made me think about the future. The thought of being employed, in the real world, with a full time responsibility where I’d make five to six figures a year got me worried. I realised  that unlike the previous topics, I shouldn’t just stop at reading two or three blog posts by others so I read pretty much all of my collegue’s blogs for this topic. Continue reading →

As a final year student at the university, knowing how to improve my employability is really important to me since I have to get a job soon after I graduated. This topic was interesting for me since I have social networking profiles. While researching and looking at classmates’ blogs, I realised the time that creating a suitable profile can take. This topic has enabled me to appreciate authenticity in general and it also shows how much effort individuals put to be authentic in a diverse online culture. Looking for a job can be tough and at the same time looking for a good employee could be more difficult. Most employers will not just throw open their doors to every graduate with a degree, they will want to know a lot of information about the applicant, with both their professional skills as well as their personal features.
