Summary of UOSM2008
I must admit, I didn’t really see how much this module would help before I started it. However, as the weeks came and went with a blog post to follow them, I started to see how much a professional profile and an active online identity can help me once I start to finish my time at University. Although I’m an IT student, I didn’t really have much of an online identity or even a presence, where I would not have anything personal online other than a Facebook profile.
For the first topic we looked at Digital visitors and Digital residents, during this review I thought of myself as a visitor, trying to keep a low profile on the web and distancing myself from using personal information. However, right now I can see myself as more of a resident. I have created numerous accounts on professional sites like Linkedin and About.me.
My Linkedin profile has come along well and is currently at the “advanced” stage of the profile strength. I have a good base template that can be worked with and expanded when new items come up as well as giving the viewers some important information. For the future I intend to increase the connections that the profile have so I can get it up to the next stage of their profile strength.

About.me is a site that I have only just picked up on and is still in need of content. Over the next few weeks I will look to improve it and develop the biography to give a prefect explanation of myself, what I look for and what I can do.
I feel that these two sites work very well together and once they are both complete they will synergise perfectly. Allowing the Linkedin profile to give me the connections, show my professional skills and qualifications while the About.me profile give more of a personal profile to the viewer and so together I would have a great combination of profiles.
There is something that does need a lot of work, that is my Twitter. Before this module I didn’t even have an account, however, I made one but that is where it ends really. At this point in time it is just used to look at some news on the occasion but I haven’t really emerged myself into it.
Self Test.
Above is a table of how I thought I’ve progressed over the module in these area. As you might e able to see, the module has developed the skills greatly.
Although this is the end of the module, it might not be the end of my blogging. I plan to obtain my own IP and server host so that I will be able to develop my own site that could be used as a profile for my future developments and showcase a portfolio of hopefully high quality web application.
