Sustainability covers social, political, and cultural issues, not just environmental ones! Basically, anything that encouraged society/ the world to develop in a positive way.
Examples of topics that University of Southampton students are researching are listed below, hopefully this will give you a better idea of how much the umbrella term sustainability really covers.
