All blacked out!

By Julia Kendal |

Blackout Volunteers

And this isn’t even all of them!

On Friday 14th November over 250 students and staff blacked out Highfield, Winchester School of Art, Avenue and Boldrewood campuses!

Back for its third year, Blackout sees hundreds of volunteers giving up their Friday night to audit and switch off electrical equipment left on in offices and computer rooms. Beginning in 2012 in 34 building on Highfield campus alone, this year it was bigger and better, covering four campuses in two cities.

Blackout isn’t just about one night. If we all undertake simple everyday actions – such as switching off computers, monitors, lights etc. at the end of each day – collectively we can greatly reduce the environmental and financial impact.

Look out for future blog posts on the results from Blackout 2014, but in the meantime a huge thank you to all the students and staff involved in the run up to and on the night! We couldn’t have done it without you!
