Panopto
2014
Our Flash media streaming service is being replaced by Panopto
If you’ve arrived at this page it is likely that we’ve processed one of your videos and are using this page to explain the transition from our Flash media streaming service to Panopto Unison.
Current process
If you’ve ever asked iSolutions to create a streaming video file in the past the process went like this: More
Panopto and Blackboards
No, not that Blackboard, real blackboards.
Despite being in our fifth year with Panopto at the University there is something that we haveve really struggled with; capturing Blackboards. Of course we haveve always had options, Panopto ingests webcams, but the cable to a webcam is generally only one metre long. With an extension lead you might get four metres away from the computer at the front. More
Panopto Training Guide
Have you been to one of our larger training sessions? I hope you enjoyed it!
We run a 90 minute Panopto training course (http://go.soton.ac.uk/training) where we go through each step required to make a fantastic Panopto recording. Attached below you’ll find the step-by-step training guide that accompanies the course.
Panopto practice folders are available
There is a new folder in Panopto called
# Your secure practice folder [Files DELETED after 14 days]
This is a special folder that allows you to record a Panopto session that cannot be seen by your colleagues or students. If you’ve been concerned about trying out Panopto, as the recordings upload directly into Blackboard, then this is the perfect opportunity to try it out. More
New Panopto folder structure
We are making two changes to the Panopto service in one week’s time. Both changes will significantly increase your ability to get your content securely to the right people and decrease the amount of time spent moving sessions between courses.
“Give me a one line summary”
We will be creating some new folders based on your Blackboard course that will allow you to share sessions with more than a single year’s course. We’ll also make you a secure practice area that students and other staff cannot see. More
Embedding Panopto videos
You can now embed Panopto videos on blog.soton.ac.uk in the following way.
How can I livestream as well as record my lecture in Panopto?
It’s quite simple to live-stream Panopto recordings. You don’t need anything more than the normal Panopto Recorder software, although we do recommend doing a test on the actual equipment you wish to use on the day.
The easiest way to live stream is to tick “Webcast and Record” in the Panopto recorder
You can click on the pictures to enlarge them
When you press record a URL will be generated and automatically placed within your Blackboard course and on http://coursecast.soton.ac.uk.
How do I get that URL in advance?
The biggest downside of the above step is that the URL is generated automatically only when the lecture starts. This is good enough for a test broadcast or a secure broadcast to students on your course, but is probably inappropriate for an event. You can follow the steps below to pre-generate a fixed URL. More
