The figure below shows the composition of the complex tone in which the fundamental as well as the first two partials have been removed.

This shows that even when the fundamental and the two first partials of a note are removed, the perceived pitch of the note remains unchanged although the character of the note is modified. This example illustrates the complexity of pitch perception.
