The figure below shows the composition of the complex tone in which the fundamental as well as the first two partials have been removed.
The audio files contain the note D with the fundamental, the first partial and the two first partials successively removed.

This shows that even when the fundamental and the two first partials of a note are removed, the perceived pitch of the note remains unchanged although the character of the note is modified. This example illustrates the complexity of pitch perception.
