Postgraduate Education
Embedding sustainable practice will come by winning over the people who actually work in the laboratories – that is the PhD students and Post Doctoral workers. Education is therefore key! Sustainable Practice will be embedded in PhD student induction training as part of the current Safety course (CHEM6116) – a requirement for all new recruits.
We adopted a ‘learn by doing’ approach where students audit each other’s research operations and provided critical feedback.
Undergraduate Education
The undergraduate laboratories have implemented water saving measures in the form of closed loop cooling for all rotary evaporators. This has led to a significant saving in water and, importantly, has embedded sustainable practice in the UG students
