Seth here: What do you all think about this paper by José Ortega y Gasset?
I asked Su to add it to the module’s Mendelev list because I found it fascinating that a 1930s philosopher reacting to Spanish fascism had something to say to me as a proto-interdisciplinary scientist starting out in the 1990s.
I originally came across the essay in a collection of science writing put together by Martin Gardener who wrote a regular column in Scientific American and was most famous (to me) for popularising Conway’s Game if Life (which some of you may have had as a screensaver at some point).
