The Trembling Line – closing this week

If you haven’t yet had a chance to go over to the university’s John Hansard Gallery to experience Aura Satz’s wonderful show, The Trembling Line, now is the moment! The show closes on 23 January.

The centrepiece of the show is The Trembling Line, which Aura Satz completed during her Leverhulme Trust-funded residency at Southampton.  The piece features a score by Music’s Dr Leo Grant, and uses an innovative spherical speaker array designed by the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research.  Staff and students from Music participated as performers in the film. Five of Satz’s other works on aspects of sound and vibration are included in the show.  This excellent interview with Aura on Studio International provides lots more about how the pieces fit together, exploring Aura’s interests in the visuality of sound, women and technology, and perception.

You can watch and listen to an extract from The Trembling Line on the Wire or in this university video about the residency – but don’t miss the full experience of standing in the sphere if you can make it to the gallery this week.
