Let’s start with Maddie Mason who was “inspired” and wrote a poem 🙂

Ode to Italy

One month ago I left the UK,

I went to Italy – a week there I stayed,

I went with my Italian class,
I learnt lots and I had a laugh,
Ice cream and pizza played a part in our stay,
In fact they appeared almost every day,
It started even on the very first night,
When we arrived in Iesi and then went for a bite,
We did lots of travelling over the following days,
And improved our Italian in many ways,
Off to Rome and Ancona we did go,
Where we visited the sites and took photos,
The coliseum, Spanish steps and San Pietro,
Everything in Rome was simply fantastico,
But the caves for me were really the best,
As not only did they put my Italian to the test,
Their sheer size and magnificence had me in awe,
I had never seen anything so impressive before,
Yet perhaps one of the best moments of all,
Is when we spent an afternoon by the pool,
We laughed, swam and ate lots of food,
Took in the view and it was all so good,
The town of Iesi, where we set up base,
Was quiet and peaceful and to my taste,
There were many friendly people who were eager to chat,
My problem at first was I could not answer back,
But as the week went on my confidence grew,
I spoke more Italian and I understood lots too,
But there were other things which were learning curves,
Like crossing Italian roads requires some nerve,
But also how brilliantly expressive Italians can be,
That was absolutely great to see,
And also how Italians are always very well dressed,
No matter the weekday in their Sunday best,
So thank you Alessia for the trip to Italia,
For me it was an esperienza fantastica,
I’ve learnt a lot and I feel very fortunate,
Like next time I’m in Italy, I won’t be drinking a hot chocolate!
