Get involved

Do you work with salmon for Marine Harvest Scotland, Freedom Food, Youngs or Sainsbury’s in the Sainsbury’s salmon supply chain?

Or, do you eat salmon from Sainsbury’s sometimes (farmed or wild, certified by Freedom Food or not)?

If so, I want to hear from you!

Please email me using julia.walker@soton.ac.uk.  I would like to find out what you think by interviewing you online, showing you videos of salmon production and recording your perspective using a head-camera. Little is known about the behaviour of people towards fish and I hope that the head-camera will provide an insight into this by recording interactions between people and fish.

This is an opportunity for you to express your opinions about the UK fish industry and to learn more about the farmed salmon supply chain and fish welfare.  Your involvement will also be of great value to me, in supporting my work towards completing this PhD – thank you in advance.

If you work with salmon:

I would like to arrange for you to wear a head-camera whilst you are working to try to record your experience of your work with salmon, then I would like to chat to you online about your video.

I would then like to show your video (with your approval and the approval of your employer and the other organisations in the supply chain) to members of the public who eat Sainsbury’s salmon so that they can learn more about the way Freedom Food salmon is produced, I will then chat to them online to find out what they think.

I hope to be able to put all the footage together to make a video which will give snapshots of all the different stages involved in producing Freedom Food salmon, from a salmon egg being collected to packaged salmon being put on shelves in Sainsbury’s.

If you eat salmon:

If you eat salmon from Sainsbury’s sometimes, (farmed or wild, certified by Freedom Food or not) I would like to arrange for you to wear a head-camera at home whilst you are cooking and eating salmon bought from Sainsbury’s, then I would like to chat to you online about your video.  Later on, I would also like to show you some videos of the way Freedom Food salmon is produced and then chat online with you to find out what you think about these videos.

Do you live near a Marine Harvest salmon farm in Scotland, or do you go on holiday near one?  Are you a fisherman working near one?  Or are you a salmon angler and fish near one?  If you fall into any of these categories please get in touch as I would like to arrange for you to wear a head-camera for half an hour or so to capture your perspective of Freedom Food salmon farming, then I would like to chat to you online about your video.
