I am an academic, nurse and carer who is passionate about increasing patient, service user, public, lived experience involvement within higher healthcare education. Having seen at first hand how effective empowering people to manage their own mental health whilst working as a mental health nurse, it seems a natural consequence to advocate for the involvement of those with long term health problems to have some say in the kind of healthcare professional that universities are now educating. This is born out by many professional bodies (Eg NMC and the GMC) and encouraged by reports such as the mid staffs enquiry.
To me, its not if this happens, but when and how.
