This website is all about sustainable chemistry. More specifically, it showcases and discusses activities going on in the chemistry department at the University of Southampton. We are a researcher-led group of staff and students, looking at reducing the environmental impact of chemical science from changing methods in the lab, to educating people and changing minds.
The primary movers and shakers are:
Simon Coles (staff)
Jon Kitchen (staff)
Rob Laverick (PhD student)
Mike Moazami (PhD student)
Dharyl Wilson (PhD student)
They are strongly supported by Alasdair Douglas (Facilities Manager), David Kinnison (Safety), Thomas Logothetis & Simon Gerrard (both in Education) in Chemistry and Jodie Barker in Estates and Facilities. Together we comprise the membership of the Chemistry Environment Group, which is fully backed by senior management in the department.
The group also brings in undergraduate students on summer internships to help with our efforts. In 2015, Tim Deehan, June Lovitt, Dan Mannering, Alex Pateman and Steve Worswick were employed to find the most efficient set of conditions for chemical reactions. In 2016, Sam was employed to help update and manage this site to further discuss sustainability issues.
