Sainsbury’s salmon is certified by Freedom Food, the RSPCA’s farm animal welfare scheme and is farmed in Scotland by Marine Harvest. Scottish Freedom Food salmon is unique – it is the only farmed fish in the UK that is labeled as higher welfare, and no wild fish is.
What do you think about higher welfare salmon? What is different about higher welfare salmon? Why is it commercially successful?
With your help, this research project will try to answer these questions and others. It aims to understand how those who work to produce salmon and those who eat salmon interact with this fish in this higher welfare supply chain, also how empathy may play a part in fish welfare.
