Last few months our team was working on demo version of proposed social network-based recommendation system. We decided to include in the minimal functionality set following features: movie and place check in, movies rating, suggestions to friends, “following” friends with similar tastes functionality and recommendation engine.  This post describes available use case scenarios and provides interface screen shots of our demo application.

Check in functionality

System allows users to share the information about movies they watched in their user profiles. It involves 3 steps: movie selection, place check in and tagging friends who watched this movie with a user.

Comments and ratings

Another important feature of our system is the possibility to rate (on the scale from 1 to 5) and comment movies that user has been watched. User friends will get notifications about these reviews.

Suggestions

The user can directly recommend a movie to one of the friends in his social network “buddy list” who, as he thinks, might like it as well.

Follow friends

“Follow friends” function allows to subscribe on recommendations and comments made by some of user’s friends. Such subscription will tell the system that the user is interested in recommendations made by “like-minded” friends at first and will push suggestions made by these users on top of the recommendation list.

Recommendations

The final part of our scenario is a recommendations gathering.
