Drawing and Photography International Contest – Utopia 500 Project

We would like to invite you to participate in the UTOPIA 500 international project (http://www.utopia500.net/), promoted by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto, by contributing to our Drawing and Photography contest.

Since the very first human civilisations, architecture has played an integral role in representing and reflecting the society to which it belongs, characterising cities and landscapes for years, sometimes even centuries, to come. From ancient monuments like Stonehenge and Rome’s Pantheon, through to the ultra-modern Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur and the Gherkin in London, architectural design, much like fashion, has long been pushing boundaries and giving identity to both city and citizens.

DPic: Architecture, Art and Image is an international Drawing and Photography contest organised by UTOPIA 500, in partnership with scopio Editions, Project AAI and the research group CCRE (FAUP), and is based on the concept of “utopia” and this extraordinary influence of architecture and design. The contest involves submitting two A3 plans, the first showing a certain part of any chosen city as it is now, and the second a utopian vision of how this same area could be in the future.

We are welcoming entries from undergraduate students and young researchers all over the world, enrolled at any institution of higher education or research. Participants will be able to compete either as individuals or in groups; however we encourage the formation of multidisciplinary teams, composed of members with wide-ranging academic profiles.

The top 20 designs will all be publicly exhibited at the Óbidos Literary Festival later this year and the ultimate winner will then be selected from these through a combined vote of our judging panel and festival-goers.

For more information on the prizes and the contest in general please follow the link to the official website (http://dpic.ccre-online.com/ ) and see the regulations attached below (scroll down for the English version).
