Hi everyone! I am a master’s student at CUNY, The Graduate Center in New York. My concentration is in the Archaeology of the Classical, Late Antique and Islamic Worlds. My research interests are in the art and architecture of Republican and Imperial Rome, particularly in building construction/layout and architectural decor. I participated in the Portus Field School last year and am very excited to be coming back to work with everyone again!

Hello all! I completed my Master’s degree in Roman Archaeology at Southampton in 2013. My area of studies is Roman (and medieval) history. I discovered my love for field work on my prior Portus digs and am excited to return this year!

Hello fellow Portus fans! I completed my Master’s degree in Classics (with a concentration in Roman Art & Archaeology) at the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2013. I wrote my undergraduate thesis on Portus and had the opportunity to dig there last year, and am looking forward to digging there again this year!

Hi! I’m a gap year student from Lancashire and I shall be taking up a place at Oriel College Oxford in October 2015 to read Classical Archaeology and Ancient History. I love field work and I’m so excited to have the opportunity to dig at Portus. Can’t wait to meet you all.

Hello everyone. I’m from Newcastle, a city on the east coast of Australia. I’m currently pursuing a Masters in Ancient History and Archaeology at Sydney’s Macquarie University, and am interested in the urban and regional communities (amenities, trade, buildings and entertainments) of the Roman World. Over the last few years I have participated in two Earthwatch-sponsored archaeological programs (Roman-related, in Tuscany and Devon), and was attracted to the Field School after participating in Southampton’s Futurelearn Portus MOOC. I’d recommend highly to other newcomers, if any of you have missed it – only six week’s in length, and offering a terrific introduction to the place where we will be working.

Hello all! I’m a Classical Philologist currently carrying out my PhD in the Portus Limen Project. I usually work with literary sources, but I chose Portus, one of the most relevant ports of the Empire, to be one of my case-studies, so I am really excited to go and see the archaeological site in person!

Hi everyone! I’m currently a Ph.D. candidate in Classical Art & Archaeology at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. My research generally focuses on politics and propaganda in Greek and Roman art. More specifically, I’m interested in the control, regulation, manipulation, and dissemination of historical, mythological, and religious images by the emperor, used as tools to further his political agenda, and curry favor with the Roman people both in Rome and in larger provincial cities. Thus, Portus is the natural entrepot for the exchange of socio-political ideologies between the capital and its provinces. I am very excited about joining the Portus team, and am looking forward to meeting all of you!

Hi! I’m Dilini :) Criminology and Computer Science, 2nd year from University of Southampton! I’m looking forward to the Portus Project and have great interest in the techical aspects and group work that make up the whole trip! Main interests include; Photogammetry, Computerising artefact records, Photogrammetric processing and Computerising artefact records.

Hello all. I’m Nicolas. I’m Research Fellow at the University of Southampton and I’am working within the Rome’s Mediterranean Ports project (http://portuslimen.eu/). Since my master’s degree (long time ago !!!), my researches focuse in ancient ports and harbours and are based on a multidisciplinary approach including archaeology, geoarchaeology and ancient sources analysis.
I’m sure this Portus campaign will be an exciting one and I look forward to meeting all of you on field
