We have a large range of support information for International Students joining the University of Southampton
Many students are interested in studying in the UK. As well as the academic content of your module you will have a chance to learn more generally about living and learning in the UK. Joining a new culture can be intellectually stimulating, but you may appreciate a little help on how to go about study, and the academic expectations which we have of our students.
Studying at a UK university also means studying in the English language. Its a chance to update your language skills and practice writing and communicating in English.
In UbiCamp we are using the same university infrastructure that is in place for our face to face students. We will provide opportunities for you to take part in group discussions and seminars and you will be expected to make group presentations, but of course you will be using web based technologies to make that happen.
In a broader context you may be interested in informal support from student clubs and societies. Even if you can’t come to meetings you may be able to join forum discussions, and set up ‘branches’ of the society in your home town of country to participate from a distance.
Learning inevitably includes some cultural components. While you may not be able to join an outing or visit a site in the real world, we will try to give you every opportunity to participate in those wider cultural activities, remotely, via the web.
