About Us

Our inclusive education and social justice research seeks to understand and promote the ways in which individuals can be enabled to participate in learning, decision-making and research. We do this through valuing and respecting the right for individuals to have a ‘voice’ and to understand the connections between individual experiences and wider societal structures, policies and debates.

We are interested in how schools can enable active participation of children in society and provide equality of opportunity for all learners. Our research also explores how under-represented groups are included culturally, socially, practically and politically across the life-span.

Collaborations and connections with schools, groups and organisations are central to our approach as we seek to inform and challenge practice and policy as well as offer practical solutions to support participation. Our aim is to make a difference through active engagement with the people with whom we work, research and teach.

Our main areas of research focus on:

  • Participatory and inclusive research methods
  • Identities and experiences relating to disability, race, gender and marginalisation
  • Voice, inclusion and advocacy
  • Innovative technologies for enabling participation and learning
