Plustex at In the Loop 3.5, Shetland, UK

Shetland- Murdo Macleod

Working on disseminating the activities Plustex project, we are pleased to announce we have been selected to present a paper at the In the Loop 3.5 Conference,  Shetland Isles, 31 July 2nd August 2013.

From knitting samples to public policy: a case study in interconnectivity.

The paper explores the Making Connections conference theme by revealing the how industry and cultural institutions,  place and  knitting practices come together as catalysts for innovation in business through knowledge transfer projects.

Below is an excerpt of the In the Loop site: In the loop 3.5: making connections takes place this year in partnership with Shetland Arts as part of an International Textile Festival. A Draft Festival Programme is now available and there is also more information at www.shetlandarts.org/textilefestival.

You will see that there is a strong Nordic theme this time with an emphasis on contemporary textile cultures. We have created an A-Z to encourage a wide range of papers whilst retaining as you would expect a concentration on knitting. We are especially interested in including business, enterprise and the industry through their connections with all types of knitting.

The conference will start off at “Mareel” the new Shetland Arts Performance Hall which I visited on my most recent visit, it is a fabulous place so a great location to open In the loop 3.5: making connections. We will then transfer to Shetland Museum & Archives another superb environment and just across the road.

Welcome

Welcome to the pages of the Plustex project at WSA.

Our pages will disseminate information on the progress of the project, our dissemination activities, external interests and our partner regions and events.

Plustex is anchored by a thematic framework, so we will share the themes and good practice policies as we explore them as part of the project aims over the next two years.

Links will include textile related events specially focussing on the Southampton theme – eco-innovation and sustainability.

We hope to include a wide range of topics and practices, and look forward to hosting the Plustex partners’ visit in May 2014.
