Raising mathematics achievement in local schools

Members of MaSE were pleased to be able to support secondary schools in the Southampton Local Authority with a revision day for year 11 pupils after the venue they had booked went into liquidation and left them high and dry. The day was targeted at supporting pupils on the C/D borderline and  was attended by all the schools in the Authority. In previous years more than 90% of those attending such days have gone on to get their grade C. The day was further supported by some of the current cohort of PGCE students. For university staff, it provided another opportunity to work with ex-students, a number of whom are Heads of mathematics at City schools.
