Professor Lianghuo Fan, Head of the Mathematics, Science and Health Education Research Centre, has recently delivered a keynote speech at the Second Chinese Conference on Mathematics Education (CCME-2), which was held from 26-28 Oct 2016 in Chongqing, China. CCMEs is a newly launched high-level academic conference series for Chinese mathematics educators in both greater China region and around the world, with the first conference being held in Beijing, 2014. Drawing on his research work over the last few years as well as his latest developmental work in the Shanghai Maths Project (click here), Professor Fan’s presentation focused on the issues about the impact of the national curriculum, language, culture and social background on the development and formation of school mathematics textbooks. The conference attracted more than 300 mathematics educators from different parts of the world including Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, USA, Germany and the UK.
