In the recent NCETM Summer ITT Conferences, each delegate to series of one-day conferences for mathematics teacher educators from across England organised by the DFE-funded  NCETM (National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics) on the implications of the new National Curriculum for ITE was provided with a copy of Dr. Charis Voutsina’s recent paper on “Procedural and conceptual changes in young children’s problem solving”, which was published in the top-ranked journal Educational Studies in Mathematics, Vol.79, No. 2, pp. 193-214. This illustrates the impact of Charis’ research on practice in schools, and on ITE, as the new National Curriculum for mathematics is introduced.
