Intern Update ā€“ Time to say Goodbye and Hello

Hi all from Nancy!

Last week was full of emotions and feelings for me, from saying goodbye to all of the interns that I have been working with throughout the summer, to welcoming all university students, both returning and new. Although it was already expected, it is really sad that Caitlin is no longer with us anymore. Weā€™ve been there for each other and exchanged our crazy ideas. But donā€™t worry; she will come back for the festival!

It was also a very busy and exciting week for everyone. We had the bunfight (to which some of you may have been disappointed from the lack of buns involved!) and also the Fresherā€™s Fayre. We were with the Language Opportunity team; I hope you had the chance to visit our stall during the fayre. We are working very hard this year to prepare for the WOW festival, thatā€™s why we are extremely happy to share to you that we will be collaborating with SUSU! Bring you an intercultural festival that is bigger, fuller and more vibrant.

I know the festival will not be here until the February of next year, but do spread the word. Time flies. As for now, I will continue to work with the project and also at the same time doing my Masterā€™s degree.

Stay tune for the next update.

ICS welcomes new interns

Hi all, I am Nancy, I just recently graduated with an Economic degree. I have organised a few cultural events such as ā€œGlobal Villageā€, ā€œInternational Cultural Nightā€, I am also going to be the International Studentā€™s Officer next year. I am really excited to work with the ICS team this summer.

Hello everyone! My name is Caitlin and I too am a recent graduate and have just finished my degree in Spanish and Portuguese. Having spent my Year Abroad helping plan events with an environmental charity in Brazil, Iā€™m hoping that Iā€™ll be able to utilise the skills I gained over that period during my time with ICS.

Over the next 12 weeks, together weā€™ll be organising, planning and ultimately, in January 2016, delivering the Intercultural Connections Southampton Festival. Having both lived in Southampton for a number of years, we appreciate how culturally diverse both the city and the University of Southampton are, and are therefore really looking forward to putting on an event which will encourage intercultural exchanges and strengthen international ties across the community.Ā  Weā€™ll be posting about our progress every week, so make sure you keep up-to-date by checking this page every Friday!
