About Us

We are a Wessex wide partnership of providers, commissioners, patients, public, clinicians and researchers. We aim to put into practice what we learn from undertaking research. Our focus is on bringing benefits to people living in Wessex through better integration of pathways to care for people with long term conditions and reducing hospital admissions through more appropriate use of health care.

We have outlined six themes of work: integrated respiratory care, ageing and dementia, fundamental care in hospital, public health & primary care, engagement with self-directed support, complexity and end of life care.

Caring

On 9 August 2013, the Department of Health announced investment of ÂŁ120 million in 13 new National Institute for Health Research Collaborations for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (NIHR CLAHRCs) in England including the NIHR CLAHRC Wessex.

On behalf of our host institution – University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, and the University of Southampton we are pleased to announce that we have been successful in securing funding to host the NIHR CLAHRC Wessex.  In addition to the £9m available for newly established CLAHRCs, we have matched funding promised across the region by a number of organisations, whose key aim is to accelerate the translation of research evidence into practice.

We anticipate much of this funding will be used to in kind to release staff time and support the involvement of patients and citizens in Wessex.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to making our bid successful and we look forward to working with you in the next five years to improve healthcare in Wessex.
