Social network analysis was by far the most dominant theme, and the full selection of papers can be accessed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.websci11.org\/program\/\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Where were the business peeps though? A commercial perspective on some of these great ideas would have been very useful. For example, Karolin Kapler\u2019s excellent presentation titled \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/www.websci11.org\/fileadmin\/websci\/Papers\/83_paper.pdf\">social media as a new social fetish\u2019<\/a> has significant relevance to marketers tempted to evaluate the impact of Facebook communities on the basis of \u2018likes\u2019. Karolin discussed the trend of \u2018interpassivity\u2019 where users substitute an online action for a \u2018real\u2019 one \u2013 for example, setting up an impressive selection of RSS feeds does not mean that any of them are actually read, or \u2018liking\u2019 a particular cause may not necessarily lead to a charitable donation.
