{"id":1471,"date":"2016-12-12T11:55:48","date_gmt":"2016-12-12T11:55:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/wsaopps\/?p=1471"},"modified":"2017-10-04T13:45:40","modified_gmt":"2017-10-04T13:45:40","slug":"student-packaging-designer-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/wsaopps\/student-packaging-designer-of-the-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Packaging Designer of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Student Packaging Designer of the year is an opportunity for student studying design to showcase their ideas and talent to a range of industry experts by attempting to solve some of the known consumer issues in packaging through design.<\/p>\n<p>This year our first prize is \u00a32000 along with six category prize winners of \u00a3750 each.\u00a0 The best and brightest will also be offered the opportunity to take up internships, work shadowing or mentoring with some of our industry champion companies from which are judges are drawn.<\/p>\n<p>The competition is organised by market research company Watch Me Think, whom I am working on behalf of, and sponsored by Crown Packaging with the main aim of encouraging tomorrows design talent to consider the option of packaging design as a career, help them build their design portfolio and enable them to raise their profile within the design industry.\u00a0 All entrants retain their IP rights and previous winners have gone on to start their own companies based on their take part in international design internships.<\/p>\n<p>If you feel this may be of interest to your students whether they intend to go into the packaging industry or not I would appreciate it if you could make them aware of the challenge.\u00a0 Full information and registration will be available at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spd.watchmethink.com\/\">www.spd.watchmethink.com<\/a>\u00a0and the competition is open to any current higher or further education student irrelevant of course choice.\u00a0 Entrants may choose to use a previous design they have created or come up with something completely new as long as their design fits into at least 1 of the following categories::<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dispensing<\/li>\n<li>Product Waste<\/li>\n<li>Packaging Waste<\/li>\n<li>Visuals \/ Graphics<\/li>\n<li>Opening &amp; Closing<\/li>\n<li>Storage &amp; Transportation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The process of entry is\u00a0 simple<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>From Friday 2nd of December go to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/spd.watchmethink.com\/\">http:\/\/spd.watchmethink.com<\/a>\u00a0and register interest.\u00a0 This will give access to useful information and hints and tips from the judging panel, industry champions and previous winners<\/li>\n<li>Access the videos of real consumers talking about real packing issues to gain some inspiration or simply develop an idea you already have.<\/li>\n<li>Submit your idea is the designated format no later than 10 March 2017<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Please see our PDF poster, here:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/wsaopps\/files\/2016\/12\/flyer-prize-pounds.pdf\">flyer-prize-pounds<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Student Packaging Designer of the year is an opportunity for student studying design to showcase their ideas and talent to a range of industry experts by attempting to solve some of the known consumer issues in packaging through design.
